UNICEF Start Strong: Zambia

UNICEF START STRONG: ZAMBIA

UNICEF is one of Key Club’s preferred charities. As a whole, this organization is committed to ensuring special protection for the most

disadvantaged children – these children often suffer from the surroundings of war, disasters, poverty, violence, exploitation, and disabilities.

Having a presence in more than 190 countries, UNICEF has saved more lives than any other humanitarian organization. Throughout all of their

projects, this organization makes sure to provide low-cost, high-impact, sustainable solutions “for every child.” Their current project is Start

Strong: Zambia. Start Strong: Zambia focuses on Early Childhood Development (ECD) in South Eastern Africa. Science has proven that the tone

an individual's story is set at the start of life. This is why at the young ages of a newborn to an 8 year old, there is so much room for

opportunities but also risks. During the first few years of life, more than a million neural connections are formed each second. This is a pace that

is never repeated again which is why it is so important to make sure that every child’s foundation and surroundings are beneficial to the mind

and body. To support these children, UNICEF provides training not only to workers but also parents, works with the government to better

education and safety, and builds Insakas. Insakas are community centers that contain many necessities that a child or family needs. These

community centers include a playroom, kitchen, clean latrine, clean water pump, garden, security, stimulation room, and education. With that

being said, I encourage you to help provide these children with the opportunities that we so easily are given. UNICEF has 2 fundraising

campaigns! Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is throughout the month of October. Instead of trick-or-treating for candy, trick-or-treat for funds!

Feel free to be creative and host a fundraiser such as a pumpkin carving contest or a movie night! Spring Forward, the newest campaign, is

throughout the month of May! Encourage your school to partake in a read-a-thon, fitness-a-thon, talent-a-thon, or a stream-a-thon! As always, be sure to get creative and…

reach out with any questions that you may have!
